Celebrating the life and legacy of Rocco J. Moretto, this event honors a true American hero on what would have been his 104th birthday.
A lifelong resident of Astoria, New York, Rocco was a decorated World War II veteran of the 1st Infantry Division ("The Big Red One"). He was one of only two men in his 219-man unit to survive 11 months of continuous combat—from the harrowing landings at Omaha Beach on D-Day to the freezing foxholes of the Battle of the Bulge—without being wounded or captured.
Beyond his military service, Rocco was a pillar of his community and a devoted member of the
Combat Veteran: Served in major engagements including Normandy, the Hurtgen Forest, and the Battle of the Bulge.
Distinguished Honors: Recipient of the French Legion of Honor, the Bronze Star, and numerous other accolades.
