VFW Post 2348 • Astoria, NY
Every Poppy has a story. Hand-assembled by veterans for veterans. Keep the legacy alive in Astoria, Queens, and guarantee critical relief for our local heroes.
"In Flanders fields the poppies blow / Between the crosses, row on row..."
— Col. John McCraeThe Buddy Poppy is more than a symbol. It represents a strict constitutional promise made by the Veterans of Foreign Wars to support the living while honoring our fallen comrades.
Every single VFW Buddy Poppy is hand-assembled by disabled, needy, and aging veterans in VA Hospitals and state veterans' homes. They are paid for their labor, providing both a therapeutic exercise for motor skills and a proud source of supplemental income.
Under national **VFW Constitution and Bylaws (vfw.org Section 704)**, no VFW entity can make a profit from Buddy Poppy drives. Every single dollar donated by the public must be deposited strictly into the Post's **Relief Fund**, used exclusively to support veterans, military families, and orphans.
By national decree, Buddy Poppy donations are completely segregated from our operating capital. They cannot pay for the Post's utilities, repairs, or administrative costs.
Slide the control to see exactly how your donation is distributed across our authorized relief pillars according to local post needs.
"The net proceeds of the distribution of Buddy Poppies shall be kept in the Relief Fund of the Post and shall be used only for the purpose of helping veterans and their families in need."

Survivor of Omaha Beach, D-Day & Battle of the Bulge
In 2013, our Astoria post was honored with renaming itself after one of America's true tactical survivors and Astoria's beloved neighbor, **Staff Sergeant Rocco Moretto**.
Serving under the fierce **1st Infantry Division**, Rocco witnessed the heaviest axes of European combat. He stood in the line of duty with persistent resilience, embodying the true resolve of local veterans.
Rocco landed on **Omaha Beach on D-Day** inside a violent swell of Allied operations. From the brutal beaches of Normandy to the freezing frontlines of the **Battle of the Bulge**, Rocco marched forward.
Out of a 219-man infantry company, Rocco was **one of only two men** who survived those eleven grueling months of high-intensity European combat without being wounded or captured. Returning home, he dedicated his life to Astoria's youth and local veterans until his passing.
Pay tribute to a relative, companion, or historical hero. Dedicate a virtual poppy and it will instantly blossom on our responsive Memorial Wall below.
We actively coordinate distributions, community youth sports sponsorships, and emergency veteran assistance right out of our physical base.
