Community Service Reporting Guidelines

Understanding what qualifies as VFW Community Service for Department and National reporting credit.

Qualifying Service Examples

Counts toward official VFW report credit

Youth & Patriotic Education: Hosting essay contests (Voice of Democracy/Patriot's Pen), flag ceremonies, and school visits.
Community Drives: Food pantry collections, homeless veteran care package assembly, and holiday toy drives.
Civic & First Responder Support: CPR classes, cemetery cleanups, and honoring police, fire, and EMS personnel.
Veteran Assistance: Hospital visits, benefit claims counseling, career mentorship, and VA transport assistance.

Non-Qualifying Activities

Does NOT qualify as Community Service

Internal Post Maintenance: Cleaning the Post hall, bar operations, or regular internal business meetings.
Paid Work: Any activity where volunteers receive personal wages or financial compensation.
Partisan Political Work: Campaigning or lobbying on behalf of specific political candidates.
Private Personal Favors: Personal errands for friends that are not part of an organized Post initiative.
