Happy 251st Birthday to the U.S. Navy! (October 13, 1775)

On October 13, 1775, the Continental Congress established the Continental Navy, commissioning two-armed vessels to intercept British supply ships. Today, we honor all sailors—past and present—who have served aboard our nation's fleets to maintain maritime security, protect freedom of the seas, and defend our country around the globe. Non Sibi Sed Patriae — "Not for self, but for country."

📜 Military History Highlight

The Battle of Leyte Gulf (October 23–26, 1944) was the largest naval clash in human history, resulting in a decisive American victory that destroyed the operational capacity of the Imperial Japanese Navy. Fought to protect the U.S. invasion of the Philippines, the battle featured the sinking of the giant battleship Musashi, the final battleship-to-battleship duel in history, and the first organized use of kamikaze suicide attacks. By its conclusion, the Allies secured the Pacific beachheads and permanently cut off Japan from its vital Southeast Asian oil supplies.
